How to measure

Measure twice, order once

All you need is a tape measure. Measure down to the nearest 1/16".

You have an old screen

Lay the undamaged screen on a flat surface.

  1. 1

    Frame thickness

Standard sizes are 5/16", 3/8", and 7/16". Make sure it fits your window channel.

Step 1: measuring the frame thickness for a window screen
  2. 2

    Height

Measure edge to edge, top to bottom. Never measure across the middle of the frame.

Step 2: measuring the height for a window screen
  3. 3

    Width

Measure edge to edge, left to right. Never measure across the middle.

Step 3: measuring the width for a window screen

No screen at all

Open the window and find the U-channel where the screen sits.

  1. 1

    Length

Set the tape inside the U-channel and measure up, keeping the tape flat. If it won't fit in the channel, measure to the window frame edge and subtract 1/16".

Step 1: measuring the length for a window screen
  2. 2

    Width

Set the tape in the channel and measure across. Same rule: subtract 1/16" if measuring to the frame edge.

Step 2: measuring the width for a window screen
